A clear acrylic feeder that sticks straight onto the outside of a window. Birds land on the white perch a foot or two from where you are sitting, and you watch them eat through the glass.

It is the one feeder that works when you have no tree, no yard and no pole — an apartment window, a kitchen over the sink, a spare room where someone spends most of the day. Nothing to dig, nothing to assemble.

What you get

  • Clear acrylic body, about 7 inches across, open on both sides so you see the seed from indoors
  • Two strong suction cups that press onto clean glass
  • A removable white perch rod across the front
  • A flat seed tray that holds roughly a cup of mixed seed
  • Two holes at the top if you would rather hang it than stick it

Getting the suction cups to hold

Wipe the glass and the cups with a damp cloth first, press firmly, and do it on a day that is not freezing. Done that way they hold through rain and wind. Re-press them every few weeks.

Which birds come

Chickadees and titmice are usually first — they are bold and they take one seed at a time. Finches, nuthatches and sparrows follow once the feeder has been out a week. Give it a few days; birds are cautious about anything new on a window.

Cleaning

Lift it off, tip out the old seed, rinse with warm water, dry and put it back. Ten minutes every couple of weeks.

Ships within two days. Allow about two weeks for delivery.
