Nothing in this kit needs a pole, a post, or a hole dug in the lawn. One sticks to a window, one hangs from any branch or hook, and one turns a drinks bottle you already have into a feeder.

Why three and not one

Birds do not all eat the same way. The window feeder and the bottle feeder both hold seed, which brings in finches, chickadees and sparrows. The suet cage holds fat, and fat is what brings woodpeckers, nuthatches and wrens — birds that will ignore a seed feeder completely.

Spread them around the yard rather than hanging them together. Birds queue less and you see more species at once.

What to buy with it

One bag of black oil sunflower seed and a box of fat balls covers everything here. Both are in any supermarket or garden centre.
